The Institute for Social Enterprising (IFSE) is an alliance of three people from different backgrounds, but with the same mission.
In 2019 we decided join forces to develop new models for the cooperation between citizens, government and business in the Netherlands and beyond.
In our opinion, practice is the best teacher. We therefore mainly focus on field experiments and other forms of participatory research.
In 2019, we started our search in the Rotterdam neighborhoods Middelland and Agniesebuurt for a legal structure to stimulate neighborhood democracy and social entrepreneurship. This resulted in the establishment of community enterprise in both neighbourhoods.
The community enterprise is a private limited company, primarily with a social, district-oriented objective. The control of residents in the community enterprise is anchored by means of shares.

In 2019 besloten we onze krachten te bundelen om samen nieuwe modellen voor de samenwerking tussen burgers, overheid en markt in Nederland en daarbuiten te ontwikkelen. Daarbij is de praktijk naar onze mening de beste leermeester. We richten ons dan ook vooral op veldexperimenten en andere vormen van participatief onderzoek.
In 2019 gingen we in de Rotterdamse wijken Middelland en Agniesebuurt op zoek naar een juridische structuur om wijkdemocratie en bewonersondernemerschap te stimuleren. Dit resulteerde in de oprichting van een wijkvennootschap in beide wijken. De wijkvennootschap is een besloten vennootschap, met primair een maatschappelijke, wijkgerichte doelstelling. De zeggenschap van bewoners in de wijkvennootschap wordt door middel van aandelen verankerd. Het model van wijkvennootschap heeft inmiddels de aandacht getrokken van een aantal Europese landen.
